Mr. Robert “William” Roper of Swifton, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 77. He was born February 23, 1940 in Leachville, Arkansas, the son of Robert Allen and Nettie Baxley Roper.
Mr. Roper was a United States Army veteran, serving in Vietnam, and retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major. He was proud to have served his country, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 27, American Legion, and TREA. Mr. Roper was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish, camp, and work in the garden.
He was a member of Abiding Faith Church in Swifton.
Mr. Roper was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Joy (Tunstall) Roper of the home; one son, James Roper of Belton, Texas; two daughters, JoAnn Raney and husband, Jeff, of Fletcher, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Roper of Fletcher, Oklahoma; one step-son, Teddy Thompson of Lake City; two step-daughters, Charolette Barner of Tuckerman, and Lillian Ann Russell of Swifton; seven grandchildren, Morgan Roper, Jessie Lovings and husband, Matt, Jackie Raney, Jeffery Raney, Jr., Shelby Renee Thompson, Bryce Barker, and Bethany Watson and husband, Jeremy; six great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Jasmine, Aurora, Brantley, Jacki, and Ray; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeff Raney, Jeffery Raney, Jeremy Watson, Ray Watson, Alvin Arter, and Bryce Barker.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Tuesday, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Abiding Faith Church at Swifton. Interment will follow in Stranger’s Home Cemetery.
