Obituary for John W. Oberg

John W. Oberg, 89, of Harrisburg departed this life Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born in Harrisburg on March 17, 1926 the son of Will and Mary Elma (Marshall) Oberg. He married Ruth Stallings on November 3, 1967 and they have enjoyed forty-eight years of marriage together. John was a farmer, worked in a factory part of his life, and served in the United States Army during WWII. He is a member of the Greenfield Assembly of God Church and the oldest member of the American Legion Post #14. He enjoyed gardening, raising his cows, working, working, working, and spending time with his family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Elta Covington and Ruby Fortson. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home in Harrisburg, two sons: John and wife Sharon Oberg and Don and wife Gina Oberg both of Harrisburg, two sisters: Mary Carroll of Tyler, Texas and Carrie Cook of Searcy, Arkansas, six grandchildren: Tyler and wife Lauren Turner and they are expecting John’s first great-grandson, Justin Turner, Hayley Oberg, Sophia Oberg, Wil Oberg, and Eli Oberg. Bro. Jason Goad and Bro. Eddie Passmore will conduct the service Monday. The following men will serve as active pallbearers: Dewayne Brown, Nolan Evans, Darryl Davis, Justin Smith, Jerry Cole, and Randy Dillinger. Visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 6:00 ~9:00 with funeral services Monday, March 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Jackson’s Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bolivar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
